Membership

Founded in 1978, during the 1980s and 1990s the Ellsworth Historical Society flourished. It has had many long-time dedicated members, as well as a very genuine connection to other groups within the city, much as it does today. Many of our members are also leaders and members of other local organizations including other Historical Societies, Heart of Ellsworth, Ellsworth Garden Club, and Green Ellsworth. Two of our Board members are also on the City of Ellsworth’s Historical Preservation Commission and one holds State office.

We are an all-volunteer nonprofit organization with no staff. We rely on our members, donors, and volunteers for all of our business, events, fundraising, and operations. We are no less in a great state of growth and are making leaps of progress always to better serve, preserve, and engage our Ellsworth community.

Membership can come in many forms. You can join just to show your support, but we’d love to have you come to our programs and events. We always want to see our members engaged and fulfilled. Membership with the EHS in 2023 is coming with more perks than ever, including field trips, a Monthly Missive newsletter complete with a featured Volunteer of the Month, Ellsworth History merch, expanded programs and events, tours, and more.

If you wish to volunteer, you could work in collections doing cataloging and research, help to organize fundraising opportunities, join the Old Jail Committee or Outreach Committee, help coordinate programming, or help out at events. We’d also love it if you followed our The Ellsworth Historical Society Facebook page and joined our Facebook group, Ellsworth Historical Society News for the latest EHS news.

The Ellsworth Historical Society welcomes new members, both those who live in Ellsworth and surrounding areas, and those who live away. Click here for a printable membership form.
